I studied as a Pharmacist at the University of Otago in New Zealand some 20-ish years ago. I worked mainly in community pharmacies and found helping people very rewarding. It wasn’t long before I took an interest in the commercials and management, this led me on to multi-store management and then through to supplier relationships (as a buyer or category manager) at one of the pharmacy groups. From there I spent almost 5 years at PHARMAC as a Commercial Manager and, among many other things, negotiating and implementing new pharmaceutical contracts in the Infections and Gastroenterology areas. The Segway out of health has been to Inland Revenue as a Commercial Manager which has broadened my procurement expertise and also enabled me to take a lead on Social Procurement.
